As the HR Manager at the Andaz London Liverpool Street, I’m the lead person in the HR Team so represent the department and hotel when it comes to all things related to our people; it’s a Head of Department role so being able to communicate effectively at this senior level is something that comes naturally to me.

My role really is a true HR generalist position and I’m involved in all aspects of the employee lifecycle including recruitment and selection, training and development, employee relations, payroll management and employee engagement; due to the diversity of my role it’s important I keep up to date with any changes or developments in employment law and legislation that may affect or impact our business in any way. I understand how HR can influence and drive the business with our people being at the centre of that strategy; as such, it’s my responsibility to make sure we have a timely and robust approach to our overall people strategy and that this is aligned to our other hotels here in London and the UK as well as the global strategy set out by Hyatt Hotels of which we are a part of. Being able to manage different stakeholders in different areas of the business is an important part of my role so being able to understand the various priorities of these stakeholders is key to my success.

I’m also involved in project work and coming up with new ideas and proposals to streamline our HR process or to deliver innovative solutions within the operation that demonstrate the care we have for our colleagues. The diversity within our team and my role really lets me be creative and develop ideas that may then be introduced as new processes within our department or the wider operation. Attention to detail is important as I am in charge of the payroll processing for the hotel, this includes checking the payroll preview and making sure all associates are paid correctly and on time; I also help to monitor and control the payroll in the various operational departments by reviewing rotas with Managers and advising on recruitment strategies when we need to hire. I plan the HR budget each year and am involved in the payroll budgets for all departments so a good sense of financial acumen definitely helps.

Not only myself but the whole HR team try to embody our brand values of fun, creativity and integrity; no two days are ever the same and I thrive on the variety my role brings to me.
